Space 1999

Gerry Anderson's third live action series was originally intended to be a second series of "UFO".  However, when the American networks pulled out of the deal, Gerry put the design work to use as a different scenario.  Filmed between November 1973 and December 1976, Space 1999 was set in the then then future, where nuclear waste being stored on the Moon explodes in a radiation flare-up and hurls the Moon and the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha on an epic trek across the universe where they encounter both friendly and unfriendly alien planets and space phenomenon.

Model information

I mostly use the Sixteen12 Eagles for my photoshoots, for which I built a matching 1/76 scale Observation Building, then more of Moonbase Alpha including Main Mission from cardboard and subsequently a launch pad to match.  Lights in the windows achieved by placing a small LED torch inside the loose buildings which I arrange on silver sand..
