Logan's Run

Before the Star Wars craze hit the world in 1977, Logan's Run came out in cinemas a year earlier.  I immediately loved the look of the film - my interest in how the world of the future would look having been ignited and inspired by the likes of classic Star Trek and Space 1999.  I was fascinated by the model city showing futuristic buildings and transport systems, and - as a teenager - I so wanted a Sandman costume.  In 1978, ITV screened the 14 part tv series and I fell in love with that too. I wanted to be Gregory Harrison, have his looks and get the girl too!

Model information

After having successfully adapted 7 inch WWE figures as UFO aliens, and I began to wonder what else I could adapt the figures to.  Sculpting a Sandman costume seemed like a doddle after what I had learned creating the aliens, so I decided to use Modroc (plaster cast bandage material) to coat over the naked muscles of the figure, and also to create the tunic effect.  I also found a suitable WWE figure to be a Runner in the process of being "terminated", and had to sculpt his costume onto him after filing away as much of the pumped up muscles that I could get away with disguising.

When I did the main photoshoot, I used polystyrene packing I had saved after the delivery of my new 4k television for the walls to the rear, and used a sheet of gold coloured paper I had bought two years earlier knowing that it would come in useful for something one day. I love its reflective qualities.  The plastic plants are sold at pet stores for aquariums.

For the City of Domes, I found some redundant light fittings someone was selling on eBay for £1.  Inverted them with small puck torches inside them, and some bubble wrap.
